    The Cumberbund and Pouches

The midriff of the biker scout consists of a white cumberbund and two cloth pouches attached to it.

    The Cumberbund

Diagram of the Cumberbund and groin flap The Cumberbund needs to be custom made to the wearers measurements. The Cumberbund veclros in the back and an black strip of elastic creates a thong for the groin flap that's in the front. This groin strap goes under, and velcros to the back of the cumberbund, on the inside.

Photo courtesy of Mike Washko What you might not realize is that the white cumberbund is attached to a black vest-like section that is underneath the chest armor. This vest has baffled many costumers for a while now, until recently, when the "Magic of the Myth" tour started it's run across the globe, allowing some very anal retentive fans to scrutinize the display props and realize that there is a vest attached to the white cumberbund. Mike Washko took this amazing photo of the vest sleeve (it has been brightened up just a bit).

The internet prop researchers have not been afble to tell, but we are fairly positive that the black vest is secured up the back of the wearer, much like the back of the cumberbund.

When sewing the cumberbund, you may want to "double up" the cloth to give the material that billowy look that ILM has in their scout cumberbund. We used a cotton Duck "canvas" Cloth for our costumes. What ILM used? We do not know.

There are 6 verticle lines sewn into the front of the cummerbund.

The groin flap is attached at the bottom of the cumberbund and runs underneath the wearer. It stops on the bottom most part of the wearer and then continues up the crack of the wearer's ass with a black elastic thong. I recommend using a 4 cm (1.5 or 2 inch) wide strip of black elastic for this. Anything thinner will look like a bikini bottom :-)

Pre-sewn Cummerbunds and Pouch sets are available for $100.00 plus shipping and handling from our good friend "Cathy". They are custom made to your dimensions, made from double layered duck canvas like real military pouches, and take 2 to 4 weeks to sew. Rush charges can be applied to the cost to get the cummerbunds done faster. Email Cathy at catbord06@yahoo.com to place an order.

    The Pouches

Dimensions of the pouches image The two pouches measure 15.25 cm wide, 17.75 cm Tall and 5.4 cm deep. This is for normal sized 178 cm (5 foot 10 inch) tall people. If you are 10 cm (4 inches) shorter or taller, take off/add 15% to those measurements for scaling purposes.

The flaps on the front of the pouches are beveled opposite one another. The bevel goes from the middle of the pouch and towards the outside.

Sewing our pouches together... we doubled up our duck cloth canvas to help in the bulky-look of the costume. It doesn't look like it, but there is a lot of padding in the Biker Scout costume.

Pattern for making your own pouches. Noontch!!!
Here is a pattern for making your own pouches. Make sure the image prints out at the correct size.

The pouches are connected to the cummerbund about 3.81 cm (1.5 inches) from the top of the cummerbund. Some people connect the pouches via velcro or buttons, some people sew the pouches securely to the cummerbund. Ultimately, there is no right or wrong way to connect the pouches to the cummerbund.
