Body Suits

Renaissance Dancewear made the black undersuits to go under ILM's promotial stormtrooper costumes when Episode 1 came out in 1999. A bit pricey, but finding something that is ILM approved is worth the price to some hardcore fans.

Island-Scuba.com They have a very affordable lycra bodysuit (under $40.00). You'll need to sew/buy a neck ring to cover up your exposed neck. Please email me if this link dies unexpectedly one day.

Wickaway Workout Clothing
Alot of Troopers are running to buy a 2 piece NFL Football Under-clothing that wicks away sweat much better than lycra or spandex. It's called UNDER ARMOR and you can get it at most Sporting Goods stores. Walmart carries the shirt under the brand name Starter, but they do not carry the pants as of yet. More info to come as I find it.

Zylfex sells a nice wickaway pants and shirt (called Performance Power) for around $25.00 a piece. There is a cold weather line of this clothing too.

Zyflex.com Shirt
Zyflex.com Pants.

Boots

The Mariachi Connection We have found an affordable "botine" that looks similar to what the stormtroopers wore in the movies ($45.00 USA). You might want to take time to add a little more leather to the upper part of the boot so your armor does not get snagged on the top of the boot. Last we looked they were out-of-stock on the botine, so CALL and check to see if any are on the shelf.

Champion Attitude Boots A very shiny patent vinyl boot with a leather inside lining. Good price for what you get and the shine is amazing. It actually beats the shine of my ABS armor. ($80.00 online sales, usually ships immediately)

Other Websites

Obiwan's Jedi Academy - Doug and the gang over at the OJA have some great costuming tips on a dozen or so Star Wars costumes, not to mention Stormtrooper costumes. Great little tidbits to enhance your TROOPING experience. :-).

Imperial Imposters.... is a dead website, but I thought I would mention it as a past resource that showed the fans how to make affordable, good-looking stormtrooper armor out of White Posterboard. The costumers of the world will miss it. -sigh- (nov 2002)

The Parts of Star Wars has some of the best information on what ILM really used to create the props in the movies. Very detailed and very accurate! Windshield wiperblades on Trooper blasters...hmmmm.... (11/04)

Reference Books

The Stormtrooper costume is kind of difficult to find pictures of. The few that are out there are very scatttered across books and magazines. Below are some of the best books I've found that had images in them of the stormtrooper. The Visual Dictionry is probably the best. Also there was a magazine put out by Starlog Publications named THE OFFICIAL MAGAZINE OF THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, some great shots of troopers from the back. Hard to find though, it's out of print.

Star Wars Visual Dictionary image
"The Star Wars Visual Dictionary"
has a full four-page spread of the stormtrooper. It also has a cut away version of the trooper helmet showing a proposed configuration for the inner working of the helmet. It runs for about $15.00 plus shipping on Amazon.com.

Star Wars Chronicles
"Star Wars Chronicles"
is the mother of all Star Wars reference books. Over 300 full color pages of studio shots of all the props from the Star Wars movies. I cannot stress how well done and detailed this book is. If Lucas would only allow this kind of quality in all his licenced items, we'd be some bigtime happy fans. (grin) The one drawback is that the book has only one page dedicated to the Stormtrooper. There are about 6 different photos on the page. But the rest of the reference shots of other costumes out weighs that one drawback, bigtime.
It's a bit pricey at over $105.00 but the price tag is definitely worth it for the level quality you get in this book. You can get a great discount on it at Amazon.com.

"From Star Wars to Indiana Jones : The Best of the Lucasfilm Archives " Before the CHRONICLES book was available this book had the most photos of the Star Wars props anwhere. One of the best things about this book is the fact that someone actually took measurements of the props and therefore gave the propmaker dimensions to go by when recreating the items. Measurements are always invaluable. The book runs for about $25.00.

The Prop Builders Molding and Casting Handbook
The Prop Builder's Molding And Casting Handbook
by Thurston James. It costs about $17.00 U.S. and shows, in Step by Step instruction, about 8 different ways to make a mold. It also goes into great detail how to build a Vacuumform Machine. This book rivals "THIS" website in detailed descriptions! I cannot say enough about it... buy the book... use the book... be one with the book. Amazon.com has it instock.
